Follow Common Culture:
Common Culture are a rousing, fiddle driven alternative folk band, fusing traditional and contemporary elements into an upbeat and energetic sound. The gang’s songs are full of catchy hooks, infectious rhythms and a party spirit.
After two years of tearing up the UK festival circuit, Common Culture translate that rowdy live spirit into their debut album, It’s Gonna Work Out (released 15th May 2026). A defiant blend of soaring fiddle-folk and gritty storytelling, the record features world-class guest appearances from 14-time Grammy winner Ron Block, BBC2 Folk Award nominee Damien O’Kane and #1 Official Folk Album Chart artist Gaz Brookfield. From high-octane festival anthems to raw life experiences, it’s a rowdy, moving introduction to one of folk’s most electrifying new voices.
Since bursting out of South Yorkshire just two years ago, Common Culture have evolved from local secret to one of the most electrifying
acts on the UK folk circuit. Dubbed “ones to watch” by folk royalty Kate Rusby, the band has spent the last 24 months tearing through
sets at prestigious festivals such Boomtown, Bearded Theory, LakeFest and headlining Lichfield Festival of Folk. Following their
Common Ground EP, hailed by R2 Magazine as “defiantly upbeat…harking back to the heyday of British folk roots”, the band is now
ready to unleash their debut full-length album, It’s Gonna Work Out, on May 15th, 2026.
Recorded in a feverish six-day session with acclaimed producer Josh Clark of Get Real Audio, the album pairs the band’s signature party
spirit with world-class guest turns, including 14-time Grammy Award Winner Ron Block, BBC Folk Award Nominee Damien O’Kane,
#1 Official Folk Album Chart artist Gaz Brookfield and multi-instrumentalist Ritch Spence (Producer for Americana artist Emma King
and performer on Sun Studio sessions).
At its heart, It’s Gonna Work Out is a record about the messy reality of staying hopeful. The title track sets the tone, staging a tug-of-war
between blind optimism and hard-earned pessimism, proving that harmony can exist even when we disagree.
The tracklist swings between high-octane rallying cries and moments of quiet, gritty realism. “Rise a Little Higher” is a fiddle-led middle
finger to a brutal setback, while the foot-stomping “Don’t Judge, Just Love” demands a bit of grace in an increasingly cynical world. The
band doesn’t shy away from the unpretty side of life either, leaning into the brooding “Leave Me Alone” (featuring folk troubadour Gaz
Brookfield) and the punk-edged resentment of “Meet Again Sometime.” Meanwhile, the nostalgic “Normal” (elevated by Damien
O’Kane’s unmistakable tenor banjo), captures the ache of a time that lingers long after it’s gone.
Common Culture also proves themselves as masterful storytellers for the marginalized. “Living on the Road” breathes life into the oral
histories of the Peace Convoy, while while “Hiding the Truth” pulls back the curtain on the quiet, complicated friction of relationship
dynamics. The whimsical “Happy Little World” is balanced with the moving “When the Sun Comes Down“, which draws on Lizzie’s
academic research to give a necessary voice to the quiet anxieties of dementia caregivers.
Overall, It’s Gonna Work Out feels like a long conversation over a pint: rowdy, moving, and ultimately restorative. It closes with the
vulnerable ”Start Again,” featuring the masterful acoustic guitar work of Ron Block and electric tenor guitar of Damien O’Kane. It’s a
track that acts as both a catalyst for healing and the definitive closing of a chapter, leaving the listener on a path that might be winding,
but is finally clear.
It’s Gonna Work Out will be available on all major streaming platforms on May 15th, 2026, with physical copies and merch bundles available via Bandcamp.
Not Enough For Me is out now!
This high-octane video was a one-take wonder that required meticulous planning to pull off. We performed the entire track at a gruellingly slow 1/4 speed while the cast spiralled around us in real-time.
Essentially, we turned a short song into a 15 minute plus, high-intensity workout for them! (Sorry about that, team!)
The legendary Jacob Fox directed and filmed this and, as always, absolutely delivered the goods.

Listen to Wash Away the Day here
Rising stars of the alternative folk scene, Common Culture released their uplifting anthemic single ‘Wash Away The Day’.
It’s a heartfelt exploration of their lives as grassroots musicians and looks at the daily anxieties and insecurities faced by anyone navigating the challenges that come with pursuing one’s dreams.
With its infectious melody and inspiring lyrics, the song serves as a reminder that it’s okay to take a moment to breathe, wash away your worries of the day, and find solace in the company of loved ones.
The wait is over! Our new track ‘Blind’ is out now. Fans who’ve caught us live might already have a hint about the meaning, but for everyone else: The guessing game is on! What do you think it’s about? Let us know and share with your mates to keep them on their toes – let’s see who can crack the code!
Common Culture are back with their harmonious new folk single, ‘Blind‘ – a track that’s as mysterious as it is catchy. When frontman Dan shared the lyrics, the band initially thought he’d had a spiritual awakening. The real story, however, is far weirder and deeper than any divine intervention. Is it deep personal meaning? A story from a dark corner of history? One thing’s for sure: it involves an unfortunate mole! Prepare for intrigue and get ready to unearth the true meaning behind ‘Blind‘.

On their introspective single Taking Hold, Common Culture hit the ground running in an infectious indie-rock-folk frenzy. The song’s theme grapples with anxiety and thoughts of self doubt; stopping at nothing to break free from destructive cycles.
“‘Taking Hold’ is a raw and honest look at the fear that can hold us back,” says Dan Watson (vocals and guitar). “It’s about the struggle to confront your demons and take control of your life, even when it feels like it’s too late.”
Ultimately, Taking Hold is an uplifting anthem of empowerment and motivation, which will resonate with people facing their own challenges and seeking a sense of self-belief to get them through.

what the world could be
What The World Could Be serves as a poignant lament for the Earth’s dwindling natural beauty and a stirring call to action in the face of greed and injustice destroying the planet.
What The World Could Be shows another side to Common Culture’s upbeat folk sound. This time, the band takes a different approach, weaving a huge fiddle hook with pounding drum loops and evocative lyrics that paint a vivid picture of a planet under siege.
Singer and Guitarist Dan Watson said “I wrote this song while thinking about the kind of world we’re going to leave behind us. I imagine a weary traveller who has somehow been transported into a future desolate planet, destroyed by greed. It’s a cynical look at big corporations who will no doubt apologise, when it’s too late and they’re very rich.”

WE ARE COMMON CULTURE
Common Culture are a rousing, fiddle driven alternative folk band, fusing traditional and contemporary elements into an upbeat and energetic sound. The gang’s songs are full of catchy hooks, infectious rhythms and a party spirit.
Forged in Barnsley and fuelled by a fierce independence, Common Culture are a rousing, fiddle-driven force on the UK folk scene. Fusing traditional roots with a gritty, alternative edge, the band has built a reputation for transforming raw life stories into upbeat, foot-stomping anthems. Their sound, a defiant blend of catchy hooks, three-part harmonies, and infectious party spirit, has seen them rapidly evolve from a local South Yorkshire secret into one of the circuit’s most electrifying acts.
Since bursting onto the scene in 2024, the band has earned the stamp of approval from folk royalty Kate Rusby, who dubbed them “an exciting up and coming band to watch“ and invited them to share the stage for a major Cancer Research fundraiser, alongside Eddie Reader, Katherine Priddy and The Young’uns. This momentum culminated in the 2025 release of their Common Ground EP. Described by R2 Magazine as “defiantly upbeat… harking back to the heyday of British folk roots“, the EP served as the soundtrack to a whirlwind tour of over 20 UK festivals, including standout sets at Boomtown (alongside the Sex Pistols), Bearded Theory (w/ Iggy Pop), Lakefest (w/Busted) and headlining Lichfield Festival of Folk.
Through these high-octane performances, Common Culture have become known for an explosive live show that celebrates shared experiences and encourages audiences to let loose. After two years of tearing up the festival circuit, the band is now ready to translate that rowdy energy into their debut full-length album, It’s Gonna Work Out, set for release on May 15th, 2026.
Recorded in a feverish six-day session with acclaimed producer Josh Clark of Get Real Audio, the record pairs the band’s signature spirit with world-class guest turns from 14-time Grammy winner Ron Block, BBC Folk Award nominee Damien O’Kane and Gaz Brookfield, fresh off his #1 on the Official UK Folk Album Chart. From rallying cries to moments of gritty realism, the album looks life squarely in the eye. It’s a record that feels like a long conversation over a pint: rowdy, moving, and ultimately restorative.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of The Levellers and Frank Turner, Common Culture continue to forge their own path, proving that even when the road is winding, there’s always a reason to keep moving forward.
